Well reading ahead to chapter six, the Roths are told that they are going to be moved from their New Jersey home to some small town in Kentucky, this happened because of Homestead 42 which "is designed to give emerging American families a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to move their household, at government expense, in order to strike roots in an inspiring region of America preciously inaccessible to them." To me this sounded like something more like something President Jackson would have cooked up to move the native Americans to a revelation. So on a loose guess I would say that Lindbergh is trying to dislocate them and put them in a reservation or a detainment camp.

as the story concludes (into chapter 8) i think that Lindburgh will loose the presidency and history will return to its natural timeline.
